BAe 146 Whispering Jet Hangar for British Aerospace, at Hatfield


Aerial view to the British Aerospace hangar from an airplane.80 metre span Hangar, with an overall height of 20 metres, allowing 13.5 metres clearance for 4 overhead traveling cranes, for British Aerospace, Hatfield. Designed, made, erected and clad by REIDsteel.

It is part of a precision built complex for fitting out BAe 146 "Whispering Jet" Airliners and contains sophisticated equipment such as four 3.2 tonne overhead traveling cranes with rails levelled by laser beam to fine limits.

A constant temperature heating plant and fire protection system were built in. The structure also incorporates a structurally independent Annexe with design and administrative office and stores.

Civil work by Cementation Ltd.The electrically operated doors, with built in personnel doors and patent glazing, are fully insulated and have anemometer controlled cut outs to prevent opening in high winds.
