Historia de REIDsteel
Fundada en 1919 por el coronel John Reid, la empresa continúa siendo propiedad de la familia y ocupa una parcela de 4 acres en la localidad de Christchurch, en Dorset.

La imagen de la derecha muestra un anuncio de REIDsteel publicado en la revista francesa "La Science et La Vie" en 1935 para promocionar edificios agrícolas, garajes, aparcamientos, iglesias, hangares y casas. Se trata, probablemente, del primer anuncio de hangares para aviones en el mundo. Hoy en día seguimos fabricando muchas de estas estructuras.

Desde siempre hemos exportado edificios de acero a todo el mundo. Y seguimos haciéndolo.

El primer hangar

Cuando Louis Blériot hizo un aterrizaje forzoso en el norte de Francia a principios de los años veinte del pasado siglo, dejó su avión en un establo de ganado construido por REIDsteel. En el dialecto de la región,"Hangar" significa establo. Louis Blériot telefoneó a REIDsteel e hizo el pedido de los tres primeros “hangares”, que se construyeron en Lamotte-Beuvron. Desde entonces no hemos dejado de fabricar hangares y puertas de hangares.

July 1, 1872 - August 2, 1936

Louis Bleriot - Intrepid French aviator, first man to fly across the English Channel; his first hangars at Lamotte-Beuvron were supplied by REIDsteel in the 1920's.Louis Blériot alcanzó la fama mundial el 25 de julio de 1909, cuando se convirtió en la primera persona en cruzar el Canal de la Mancha en un aeroplano. Se trataba de un monoplano construido por él mismo y con un motor de 125 caballos. El vuelo, que duró 40 minutos, transcurrió entre Les Barraques (Francia) y Dover (Inglaterra) y le valió un premio de 1.000 libras ofrecido por el London Daily Mail.

Más adelante construiría el primer avión militar para los países aliados durante la I Guerra Mundial. En 1911, un avión Blériot XI fue el primer bombardero que lanzó granadas sobre las fuerzas otomanas en Libia. Entre 1914 y 1918 se fabricaron cerca de 10.000 aviones de su modelo S.P.A.D
