Helicopter Hangar for Scatsta Airport, Shetland Isles
To maintain its new state-of-the-art aircraft, a new permanent REIDsteel hangar is being constructed at Scatsta Airport. This will enable aircraft to be better maintained and housed overnight, as well as greatly improving working conditions for engineers.
The hangar is a 2 span propped portal framed building, 80m x 41m, with 7.5m clear height. The rear elevation has a full gable frame to permit future end extension, and the steel is hot dip galvanised.
The REIDsteel hangar door has 12 slabs on 3 tracks, giving an entrance 78m wide by 6m high. The minimum clear opening across the door width is 26m. REIDs will supply and install system ‘K’ personnel doors, and a single girder overhead crane spanning 14m, with 60m travel.
5% of the roof area is polycarbonate Safespan factory sealed roof lights, to provide natural light within the hangar.
